About the Kobe University Offshore Sailing Club

This club is part of the Kobe University Physical Education Association. It was originally established when Kobe University of Mercantile Marine launched large-size yacht “Kleiner Berg” to sea in 2001, and thanks to integration with Kobe University in 2002 is now powered by participants from all faculties of Kobe University. Currently there are 85 members registered, the highest number coming from the Faculty of Maritime Sciences, but also coming from the Faculties of Agriculture, Engineering, Economics, Business Administration, and Human Development. Cruising yachts are relatively unknown within Japan, but are considered a major sport in other countries in which crews in various positions come together and move as one to steer their ship forward. By helping students learn the techniques of yacht sailing, the Faculty of Maritime Sciences, Fukae Campus in Kobe hopes to nurture students of sound mind and body, fierce creativity and boundless individuality by helping them experience the thrill of racing and cruising out on the open sea, and letting them feel the awesomeness of nature and the camaraderie of working together in a crew.
